How do I find and access the property?

Auchindoun Castle is approximately 2 miles south-east of Dufftown.

The postcode for the properties, which works for most up to date GPS navigation systems, is AB55 4EN, and we will send you detailed directions in the week before your arrival.

The nearest public highway is the A941 (road from Dufftown to Cabrach/Rhynie).

The access track up to the ‘Castle Bothy’ and ‘Castle Byre’ joins the A941 approximately 1 mile up from the junction with the A912 (Dufftown to Huntly road). This is approximately 1000m long, single track width with passing places and unsurfaced. It is shared with visitors to the castle and agricultural vehicles and is uneven, with loose gravel and stones in places. With due care this is not an issue for most vehicles, however it is unsuitable for those with low ground clearance.

What time can we arrive and when do we have to leave?

Your accommodation will be ready for you by 4pm, and the property must be vacated by 10am on the day of departure.

The main entrance door to each apartment is off the ‘U’ shape barns courtyard parking area. Each has a name plaque and if no one is there to meet you the door will be unlocked ahead of your arrival, with the keys left beside with the welcome pack inside.

We advise you to contact us should you be delayed for any reason and to allow us to personally welcome you.

What happens if we have to cancel our holiday or make changes?

In the first instance please call us to discuss the changes. If it's possible to accommodate them, we'll be happy to help.
Our Booking and Cancellation Policies are detailed on the Accommodation page booking section.

What do we do if something unexpected occurs during our stay?

We want to do everything possible to ensure you have an enjoyable stay, but occasionally things go wrong. If a problem occurs you should, in the first instance, contact us, or the person/agent we have appointed to represent us (details provided separately). Any problem must be reported immediately, as you will appreciate that complaints made after your occupancy may take time to be resolved.
Are there any quirks or unusual aspects of the accommodation and location that we should be aware of?

* As noted above the unsurfaced access track from the nearest public highway is approximately 1000m long and not suitable for low slung sports cars.

* The apartments are surrounded by farmland and while this usually presents a peaceful pastoral aspect there can, very occasionally be the normal rural smells, and noise from animals and tractors.

* If you are sensitive to light when sleeping please be aware that the main bedroom in the ‘Castle Byre’ apartment cannot be fully ‘blacked out’ due to the open plan nature of the design. This is not an issue during winter months, and for the long summer days eye shades are provided should you need them.

How fast is the Broadband Internet Access?

The normal internet access bandwidth currently available to the Castle Bothy & Castle Brye apartments is in the region of 20Mb/s. This is configured as a shared private wireless network and while this is usually adequate for most applications the specific bandwidth available to any device cannot be guaranteed.

What is mobile telephone reception like?

All the major UK mobile network providers have coverage in the location although some however are weak or difficult to connect to, particularly indoors. The strongest local connections are to the Vodahone, O2, EE and 3 mobile networks.
